I DID SOMETHING RADICAL
I DID SOMETHING RADICAL
And it feels AMAZING
I just came off a 24 hour FAST
And I’m not ravenous or woozy or tired
I’m CALM, CLEAR, PRESENT and GROUNDED
What kind of fast was that, you wonder?
It was a TECHNOLOGY FAST!
No INTERNET
No COMPUTER
No TV (not that I ever actually watch TV)
Nope, not even my PHONE!
I went to the river with my sister, hiked through the forest, layed down on the rocky beach (free acupressure), floated along in the cool water in my inflatable doughnut (don’t ever try to blow those up with your mouth - just use a pump - trust me)
I got home
My phone was still on airplane mode
It was so quiet
I made a quesadilla for dinner. Drank a Sierra Nevada Pale Ale (my favorite - shoutout to my hometown). Ate chips and guac
Started reading a book in the silence. A real paperback. Remember those?
Wrote in my journal with my favorite pen (Uni-ball Vision fine point)
(Now this is the really radical part)
Was in bed by 10pm
Now it’s Monday late morning and I am writing this message on my laptop with Do Not Disturb turned on
And as soon as I’m done writing I’ll finish my technology/internet fast
I have much work to do and people to connect with
But WOW, I’m loving this fast
I’m feeling so cleansed and refreshed energetically
My nervous system feels so unwound
Unwired
RELAXED
I intend to do regular technology/internet fasts
My mental and physiological health needs the rest
Missing all the text messages and emails and social media notifications felt great
So if you don’t hear back from me right away, assume I’m offline
I still like you, love you, care about you
I just am ready for more SIMPLICITY
And QUIET
And FREEDOM
WHAT ABOUT YOU?
Are you ready for a fast?
A techno fast?
A respite from all the distractions and notifications and chimes and dings?
Ready to get quiet with yourself, go into the silence?
Does that idea sound enticing to you?
Or intimidating?
I’d love to hear your thoughts.
Let me know in the comments below.
MAY YOU FIND PEACE & QUIET WITHIN & SIMPLICITY IN YOUR SPIRIT
